President Meets Regarding Military Appointments

March 1, 1863

President walks next door to the War Department where he discusses military appointments in Secretary Edwin M. Stanton’s office.  Also in attendance are General-in-chief Henry W. Halleck, General Samuel  Heintzelman, and Adjutant General Lorenzo Thomas.  After the meeting, James B. Fry writes Lincoln’s secretary, John G. Nicolay, to return some nominations for change.
